Planning Process 6 - Charity Events

Although going to sixth form usually revolves fully around A Levels, at Post 16 we all like to participate with charity events and organise ways in which we can raise as much money as possible for charities of our choice. Within each form across sixth form, we all devised plans and organised how we were all going to work as a team in order to put on an event to gain the money.

All forms came up with very efficient ways of raising money as well as making them fun and very involving, the ideas thought of ranged from Alice in Wonderland themed back sales to food bank collections. All money raised went straight to each forms chosen charities for example, the proceedings generated from the Alice in Wonderland themed back sale went on to Smile For Life charity.

As each event will happen I will do an updated version of this blogspot. Because only a few events have happened so far I can only include a few images such as the ones about to follow

I will begin to design the page before I have collected all images as I do not want to fall behind with work, because I know each page will take a considerable amount of time to plan and create.

These are some of the images I had taken from the Great Heworth Bake Off charity event:

Image Progress ? - Students Comments

Because I am wanting to have a page which is dedicated purely to comments from current and former sixth form students, I will need to have images of those providing their views. In order to collect these images I selected a handful of students who all do at least one different subject, asked their permission and took their photographs all in front of the same background.

These are the images I ended up with:

ADD MORE IMAGES ADD MORE ADD MORE
Two of the images I had taken turned out much more darker than I had first anticipated once I have transferred them from the camera to the computer, as a result of this I will open them up with Adobe Photoshop and adjust the brightness and contrast.

The images will have to go through the process of being opened up with Adobe Photoshop and cropped down the the right size, after this I will go to Image across the toolbar, select adjustments and open up the arrow which will lead to Brightness/Contrast.
Once I have located these adjustment features, I can move the block that appears on the screen when using this away from the image so I can get a clear view of the progress.

Once I have adjusted the contrast down gradually I realised that it would have to be at 0 for my model to stop looking to dim, after this I then began to move the brightness feature around and found out that it would have to be at 126. This worked out well and I was happy with the final outcome.

Image Progress 2 - Students Working

As well as the images of the entrances for my front cover, I wanted images of students in a classroom working. This will give a more realistic view of what sixth form is like; students working.

In order to finish of designing my front cover, I wanted to take the photo of them in a classroom, so I chose to enter a class which I knew Sixth Form students would be working in. I did not plan ahead or pre warn any students so they would not be doing anything purely for the camera, I however did still ask for permission to take everyone in the room photos.

I took various amounts of photos from different angles so I could get an idea of where the lighting would be best, this is what I ended up with:

Out of the three images I feel like this one is the best out of the several photos I had taken.

This is from an extremely similar angle as the one shown above, apart from this one has cut one of the pupils out who I was wanting to be featured.

This angle did not work out as well as the first angle, the lighting is too bright and you can not see most of the students working.

Images Progress - Entrances

I think I would like the entrances to both the Sixth Form building and main school to be included on my front cover, this will allow those looking to maybe be more drawn to the sixth form if they get an idea of what the outside looks like. Some people find things more appealing if they get a view of both the inside and outside of the buildings.

Incase I decided to go ahead with this idea, I began to take images of both entrances on a  sunny day, I thought if the weather was nice it may lead to the cover looking more aesthetically pleasing.

Planning 5 - Images.

Again before I start to create the page I would like to know which images I am going to be featuring on the page in order to be able to situate them perfectly onto each page. I already have an idea of what images I would like to take based upon the pages I know I am going to be creating, I also collected a few ideas during my research process such as having images as backgrounds instead of one solid colour.

I will be taking images of:
- The facilities we have to offer.
- Students, for the comments page.
- The entrances to the buildings.
- Charity Events.
- Out of classroom activities.
- The yard.

Planning 4 - Added Extras.

I will be including an email address or some form of social media within my prospectus, this will give a sense of professionalism as well as allowing the reader to feel like if they have any unanswered questions they can easily contact someone to find out the answer. This is also a good feature so they can keep up to date with any occurring within the sixth which may regard to them.

I got the idea for this from the Edinburgh University prospectus.

Planning 3 - Student Comments.

Although I have not began to create the page just yet, I wanted to gather all information I needed so I could get a better idea of how I wanted the layout of the page to look.

I will begin to collect comments regarding sixth form form students, this will include people talking about their overall views of attending sixth form, views of the facilities as well as the subjects they study.

I will be asking people who all study different subjects to allow a wider range of reviews to help accommodate for those reading, by taking comments/reviews from students who study various subjects it will give everyone reading a better chance at finding a comment which matches the course they are studying; it will also help potentially answer any questions students may have without them even having to ask.

Planning 2 - Information Needed About Courses.

When creating and developing each course page I will have to gain an understanding of what each subject will contain, I will do so by asking fellow students who study these subjects their overview of what they have studied so far and what they will continue to study for the rest of their time there. By doing this is will allow those reader to gain a more of an understanding from a students point of view, this way it may be worded in a way which they understand more as well as offering them a realistic view of the course.

To ensure that I am covering all factors I will return back to the already existing prospectus as well as contacting teachers to make sure I am providing correct information. Each page will include information such as:

- Key Facts.

- The level of the course, e.g. BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate.

 - Entry Requirements, GCSEs.

- Course Structure.

- How it will be assessed.

- Course content, each individual module.

- Potentially some recommendations for other subjects they could take.

Planning - Pages.

Based upon the research I have conducted, which has ranged from looking through various levels of prospectuses, I have made note of what I would like to feature within my own piece.

I will include:

- 24 pages which will all focus individually on a each subject which Sixteen East has to offer, this will offer those reading an idea of what each course it all about and the entry requirements they will need to gain a place on the course.

- A page featuring information regarding out of classroom activities such as charity events

- A page which features a welcome message from the head teacher and a small about us section.

- The facilities we have, ranging from vending machines to recording studios.

- A page sharing the information about the dress code and a guide to A Levels.

- Comments from teachers and students. All of these pages will be created by using Adobe Photoshop.
